Of course I don’t like to brag about my kids, but they’re pretty good eaters. And drinkers. Until it comes to straws. Straws in juice boxes and the milk at McDonalds and the shakes Daddy makes.
For eight years I’ve been lamenting the inability of my kids to keep drinks that you tip (regular cups, sippy cups, etc) and drinks that you keep vertical, er, straight. They tip the straw drinks as religiously as the non-straw drinks, and that makes my laundry-burdened self sad.
Then I heard Chrysanthemum reminding her kids (ages 2 and 4) to keep their drinks “On your tummy” (or “belly,” I can’t actually remember how anatomically correct she was).
And it works. Probably works better the younger you start training ‘em, but telling your kids to keep their straw drinks “on your belly” works for me.

I hear you about the straw drinks, I’ll have to try this!

haha such a great idea! My kids inevitably tip the straw-drink and end up wearing it. I’ll definitely be trying that new line! Thanks.

We’ve had the same troubles with straw drinks in our house. Glad to hear my kids aren’t the only ones.
I made up a rhyme to help them remember what to do with their cups. It worked wonders:
“When you want to drink some more
Point the bottom at the floor.”
See…I knew my English degree wasn’t a complete waste of time! : )

I wish I had this tip when my kids were younger:-)

Oh, I like this. Have really been struggling with this with M, because of course we have a variety of cups that she uses. And the rare occasions that she gets an open cup … well, that just spells laundry/wet outfit right there.

About peed my pants at this line: “I’d never REALLY let Spot drink my Mountain Dew. She might backwash.”
